The Philadelphia Animation Festival is excited to accept submissions from both emerging and established animators. We are looking for innovative and creative works that push the boundaries of animation.
Dates and Deadlines
Submissions open June 13th, 2025
July 13: Early bird deadline
August 17: Regular deadline
Sept 7: Extended Deadline
Notification: October 15
Event Dates: Nov. 21-23
Runtime: 1-20 minutes
Categories
Animated Shorts
Animated shorts up to 20 minutes in length.
Experimental Animated Shorts
Experimental films up to 20 minutes in length.
Student Animated Shorts
Animated shorts up to 20 minutes in length, initiated by a student at an educational institution.
Rules and Terms:
Eligibility: Films must be completed between January 2023-present. The exception is for student films. Please email us at phillyanimationfest@gmail.com for more information.
Animation Technique: All forms of moving image are accepted. However, animation as opposed to live-action film must be the dominant technique.
Content: Films with discriminatory and/or offensive content will not be considered for acceptance.
Language: Original language with English subtitles.
Aspect Ratio: Any ratio, but must be letterboxed for 9:16 format.
Length: All submissions must be between 1-20 minutes.
Screening Format: Minimum 1920 x 1080 resolution
Student Films: Must have been initiated while a student at an institution (secondary school and higher education)
You may only submit to one category. Submit to the category that best describes your film. Jurors may reach out to request that your film be screened in a different category if appropriate.

Selection Criteria
The selection committee will evaluate submissions based on originality, creativity, and technical execution. We are particularly interested in animations that offer new perspectives or approaches to the medium.
We also encourage submissions that reflect diverse voices and stories. Our aim is to showcase a wide range of styles and narratives that reflect the rich tapestry of experiences and ideas within the animation community.
Selected films will be screened at the festival, providing a platform for your work to be seen by audiences and industry professionals alike. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure and connect with other creatives in the field.
